Many small-and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are more vulnerable to cyberattack than large enterprises, due to their limited knowledge of cybersecurity practices and budget constraints. A recently introduced Senate bill called the Small Business Cybersecurity Assistance Act seeks to provide SMBs with cybersecurity education at Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) funded by Small Business Administration (SBA) grants.

A press release from co-sponsor Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., states “The bill directs the [SBA] to become a cybersecurity clearinghouse by consolidating and managing federal government cybersecurity materials so small businesses can easily access information in one place.” In addition to the Senate bill, Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., introduced companion legislation to the House’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) offering cybersecurity technical assistance to SMBs.
